Podcasting

A podcast is a series of audio or video digital-media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers.

The method of podcasting is actually very simple. First, a podcaster (i.e. a podcast publisher) would create an audio content, usually in mp3 or mp4 format, and then have it uploaded to a server. The podcast is then published as a news feed in either RSS, XML or Atom format. The audience may then subscribe to a particular podcast they like using a news-feed aggregator, which in turn updates them whenever new episodes are released. The subscribers may then listen to or watch the podcast at their own convenience.

Teachers can use podcasting to give students access to different learning experiences outside of the classroom, inside the classroom. They can connect to various museums and archives so that students can interact with professionals and ask them questions about the particular subject.

Podcasting is being used to share information, meetings, and education.

I think that podcasting is wonderful because it gives students both students and teachers access to many different environments without the complications of field trips and other out of classroom activities. It also expands the students knowledge and gives them and opportunity to experience how advance technology has become.

AVL- Alabama Virtual Library

The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is a very essential and educational tool. It gives both students and teachers access to a Library via the internet. The AVL also allows students to have access to many dicitonaries, databases, as well as additional websites they may use when conducting research. The AVL is available from your computer at home but you must be a resident of the State of Alabama and have a library card from your local area Library.

The AVL also allows you to narrow your search by a particular age group and subject. The AVL is a free source that you may also use for research papers and library criticisms. The AVL gives access to many free resources and is an absolute great tool for all students.

Google Thinking Assignment

I think that the google article is just ridiculous. I do not think that the internet is messing with our brains. Yes, it might be a little addictive, but it is necessary in some cases.

ALEX (Alabama Learning Exchange)

The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is a wonderful tool for all teahers to use. It gives teachers access to different kinds of lesson plans for all grade levels in various subjects. Teachers can also post lesson plans and web links for other teachers to gain access to. There is also a support system so that teacher are able to interact with each other and give each other ideas. The courses of study range from English Language Arts to Driver and Traffic Safety Education, which gives access to elementary teachers to high school teachers.

I think that ALEX is a wonderful tool for all teachers. I gives them access to various resources and allows them to share their ideas to teachers across the world. Teachers can always have a back up plan while using ALEX because the materials that they need are on the web site, ready for them to access them.

ACCESS

ACCESS is a program that enables students to gain access to many courses that are not available at their local area high school via technology. These courses make it able for students to have the most highly qualified teachers so that their learning experiences may be as easy as possible. Students are also able to interact with other students so that they can have a complete classroom experience. ACCESS also allows courses to be offered online and the courses have lab simulations that the students are able to repeat so they are able to gain understanding.

Personally, I think that ACCESS is a good idea. I like the fact that students are able to learn through technology. Its good that students can interact with both the teacher and the student so that they can have the full classroom experience. However, I don't quite agree with the online courses because if the student has a question he/she is not able to ask their teacher for help. I wish that ACCESS was available when I was in high school so that I could have taken some of the courses that I wanted to take.
